Dr. Mcconnack’s Magical Tonic Recipe

DR. MCCONNACKโ€™S MAGICAL TONIC
Makes 1 cocktail

This is a winter favorite, influenced by traditional cold remedies. Honey, lemon and turmeric play well with the spicy flavors of the Amaro and bourbon.

Ingredients:
2 ounces bourbon
3โ„4 ounce Turmeric Honey (recipe follows)
1โ„2 ounce fresh lemon juice
1โ„2 ounce Amaro Sibilla
Piece of star anise or a lemon round for garnish

1. In a shaker, combine the bourbon, turmeric honey, lemon juice and amaro. Shake with ice and strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with a piece of star anise.

TURMERIC HONEY
(Makes about 11โ„2 cups)

Ingredients:
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1 star anise
1โ„2 cup (120 ml) honey

1. Toast the turmeric for 3 minutes in a dry saucepan over low heat. Then add the cinnamon and star anise and cook for 3 minutes or until aromatic.

2. Add 1 cup (240 ml) water and bring up to medium heat, then add the honey. 3. Stir the mixture until thoroughly mixed. Let cool. Strain through a mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth into a clean container.
