Design for Dads

While running her studio Fluid Design + Relocation, designer Stacey Herman had a realization: โ€œI noticed many of my clients were recently divorced fathers who would aim to create a fun-loving, comfortable new home for their children where they could feel settled and welcome,โ€ she says. What started as a niche offering became its own venture: Stripe Street Studio, a design studio catering to divorced dads, that Herman, founder and chief transition officer, launched last year.

Herman finds that while her clients know what they like, they often need help with sourcing, handling logistics, and pulling it all together. To that end, the team can take care of everything from furniture to accessories to buying kitchen items, she says.

โ€œDivorce is often a very emotional time for a family, and when Dad has an organized and efficient home with the items he and his children need, he is able to focus on his kids and their relationship, which is most important during this transition,โ€ she explains. โ€œStripe Street Studio helps him and his children maintain routines as well as create structure in their new environment. Our goal is to use design to create relationships and provide our clients with products they can use to connect with their kids, enabling them to parent well.โ€
