Bring the outdoors in this winter with floral design that takes its cue from nature. David Winston, co-owner of Winston Flowers says, “The trend we are seeing most right now, and my personal preference, is less traditional red and green, and more natural, woodsy materials such as pine cones, branches, pods and evergreens.” Channeling the winter woodlands is relatively simple; just look in your backyard for inspiration. Since this look is less holiday specific, it can carry you further into the winter months.
But there are considerations to be made in keeping things fresh. Winston explains, “The longest-lasting elements are ilex berries, winter evergreens, pieris, seeded eucalyptus, pods and pine cones, while longer-lasting flowers include calla lillies and orchids.” Winter flowers and greenery will keep longer when placed in water, rather than laid on a mantel or banister, and a wreath on an outside door will typically last all season due to the cold temperatures. Says Winston: “Just plan ahead, cycle your floral décor through the winter months and refresh it as needed around any events.”
