โ€œThis is not a house thatโ€™s reproduced,โ€ says Melissa Marcogliese, co-realtor for the property with Compass in Pound Ridge, NY, as well as the interior designer who helped the current homeowner transform the property for the modern homeowner.

The current homeowner was drawn to the 1980 Japanese-inspired single-family home because of its bucolic Pound Ridge, NY, setting and soaring wood-beamed cathedral ceiling. Each window in the home was designed to take in tree-filled views of the surrounding landscape. Interiors were taken down to the studs during the renovation, and each detail was chosen to accentuate the homeโ€™s biophilic design. For the radiant heat tile floors, Marcogliese helped the owner hand-select the Italian made ceramic tiles from Florim. Then, they replaced the two-story fireplace surround with marble selected at BAS stone in Long Island City and installed by Fordam Marble in Stamford, CT, which happened to reveal a buddha silhouette when honed. โ€œItโ€™s just kind of fabulous that it happened in this kind of house,โ€ says Marcogliese. โ€œShe just magically appeared.โ€

To add to the homeโ€™s luxury, the renovation included adding an indoor heated lap pool and private sauna in the brutalist style. โ€œThe design was copied from a five-star hotel where she swims when she’s in Paris,โ€ Marcogliese says of the poolโ€™s design. โ€œThe lighting system is thousands of lights behind this stretched piece of fabric, so it actually gives the feeling of sunlight. Itโ€™s incredible to swim in there.โ€ Powerful jets can be turned on for added resistance when doing laps.

The kitchen is dressed all in black, from the marble countertops and backsplash to the custom cabinetry with built-in coffee bar and top-of-the-line appliances. The kitchen is open to the bright and window-filled dining room and living room where art, music and conversation take center stage.

โ€œThis home is for the quiet kind of rock star โ€” the one who collects art, not autographs,โ€ says Marcogliese, who emphasized the privacy that this property, and Pound Ridge, allow. โ€œItโ€™s for the well-traveled connoisseur who craves serenity as much as style. Itโ€™s where highly curated design and stillness convergeโ€”a sanctuary for those whose collections tell the story of a life beautifully lived โ€” just an hour north of New York City.โ€
