Restore your Skin’s Healthy Glow this Spring

Experts agree that we should change our skin care routines with the changing seasons, so what does that mean for our skin now that spring is upon us? Restoration is in order after the harsh weather of winter, and sun protection is vital this time of year, as the sun builds in intensity. Hydration continues to be a priority even as moisture builds in the air. Estheticians advise to cleanse, exfoliate, hydrate and protect in that order.

Cleanse and exfoliate.

Cleansing removes impurities, particularly as the weather warms and we are out and about more often. OSEA’s Undaria Algae body wash is a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser for your whole body that cleanses without stripping away moisture. “It leaves skin soft, refreshed and balanced—perfect for the fluctuating temperatures of spring,” says Jenefer Palmer, part of the mother-daughter duo that runs the family-founded beauty brand OSEA.

After cleansing, an exfoliator helps reveal smoother, more radiant skin, says Palmer. Try OSEA’s Salts of the Earth Body Scrub, which is rich in minerals and botanical oils to nourish the skin while buffing away dead cells, or Baja Zen’s Coco Glow Body Buff Scrub. Baja Zen’s scrub is handcrafted in small batches and made with natural ingredients like coconut oil, sweet almond, apricot and orange for a beachy scent and an infusion of antioxidants.

“As we transition from winter into spring, we want to begin exfoliating more frequently and switching out our heavier moisturizers for ones that are more light-weight and control oil production,” advises Farida Lynch, licensed skin therapist, educator and owner of Farida Studio in White Plains, NY, a team of skin therapists focused on skin health and wellness. “Exfoliation will reset the skin from any flaking and dullness we experienced in the winter, while combating excess sebum production and potential clogged pores from the rise in temperature and outdoor pollutants.” She recommends implementing a chemical exfoliant in your home routine.

Moisturize daily.

For spring, beauty experts recommend those with normal skin types choose products that restore hydration after months of cold and dry air have taken their toll.

“As winter transitions into spring, your skin undergoes several changes due to shifts in temperature, humidity and environmental factors,” says Palmer, whose beauty line stands out for its high-performance, seaweed-infused formulas that aim to deliver clinical results while remaining clean, vegan, cruelty-free and ocean positive. For moisture, she recommends OSEA’s Hyaluronic Acid Body Serum. Palmer echo’s Farida’s call for lightweight hydration. “This fast-absorbing serum instantly boosts moisture levels while improving skin’s elasticity, making it the perfect alternative to heavier winter creams,” she says.

Saint Jane’s Star Flower Niacinamide Serum can give a quick boost of concentrated nutrients as micropearls burst on contact to reduce redness, improve moisture and smooth texture. Two to three pumps on clear, dry skin after cleansing infuses niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, restoring skin. Saint Jane’s Petal Cream provides daily hydration with essential nutrients from flowers and hyaluronic acid to moisten and improve elasticity. This silky soft cream can be applied liberally day or night.

For a step outside the usual routine, Farida Studio’s hydrafacial treatment, a non-invasive treatment that uses the Syndeo, a handpiece that works as a vacuum to remove impurities, blackheads and other stubborn debris from pores, for deeper, longer-lasting results.

Protect skin from the sun.

“This is a good time to simplify your skincare and be sure you are consistent about applying SPF, ” advises Casey Georgeson owner and founder of Saint Jane, the indie beauty brand aimed at healing skin and uplifting women everywhere. “Our namesake was an actual saint who dedicated her life in the 1500s to women in need, the very old, very sick, unwed mothers. It’s in her honor that Saint Jane takes a healing centric approach to skincare with clean, powerful, luxurious formulas that calm skin stress and empower a lit-from-within glow.” Before you go out the door, apply Saint Jane’s Luxury Sun Ritual SPF 30, made with sacred lotus, passion flower and green tea, provides sun protection with zinc oxide, which is safe for ocean reefs, and boosts hyaluronic acid, which is naturally produced by the skin.

Particularly after a day outside, the sun can drain your skin’s moisture. Once you are indoors and clean, nourish skin with a soothing body balm to restore hydration, smooth fine lines and improve elasticity. OSEA’s Anti-Aging Body Balm provides lasting hydration and anti-aging benefits with natural ingredients like passion fruit, coconut and acai oils.

“Skincare is more than just surface-level beauty,” attests Palmer. “It’s about nourishing the skin, body and mind with high-performance formulas rooted in nature and science.”
